After a while, I would like to share with you a sad experience I had yesterday while shopping at Macy's department store. My daughter and I had half an hour before all the stores closed, so it was a quick trip. We were drawn to the shiny section with jewelry and accessories. While we were browsing and admiring, a male salesman approached us and asked if we were okay. Then he came back again and asked if we were looking for anything specific. My daughter touched everything. She was fascinated by how everything sparkled and was colorful. She picked out a brooch with a dog wearing a red bow around its neck for me. "Mommy, I want the dog," my little animal lover said to me. We picked it out and went to the cashier to pay. The saleswoman told us to wait a moment. Then the same salesman came back to us and asked if the jewelry was for my daughter. I replied, "Yes, she can borrow them anytime." The price of three pieces was a beautiful $18 after discounts. I spoke to Elinka in Czech, and the man asked me if we were from Russia. "No, we are from the Czech Republic," I replied. Then the saleswoman came and said, "I am also Czech. I am Věrka from Litoměřice." She asked us our names, and I said my daughter's name is Elizabeta.
Now for the dramatic conclusion. Children are empathetic and sensitive beings. Elinka said to me, "Mommy, I don't understand why the man thinks we're like Putin, the bad guy?" Note: She learned this information from her school, where they learn about current events, and we personally don't like it very much. "And why did that lady call me Eliška when my name is Elizabeta? I want to leave!" She took my hand, and we ran to the fountain outside. "Mommy, let's go to Victoria's Secret. "Okay, let's go," I replied, thinking to myself, "There, the world is much pinker, and it smells beautiful."
