Fragrances and Emotions

Hello miss, can I ask you something? You smell so nice, what perfume do you use? Asks the girl behind the counter in the café. She's speaking to me from a distance of one meter, through plexiglass, wearing a mask. The scent is so strong that it fills the whole room, creating a chain reaction of senses. Another woman comes up to me with the same question. She sits down at my table and starts reading the novel "Lady Chatterley's Lover". She gets lost in the book. Once again she asks about the scent and begins typing its brand and name into her phone. I take the perfume out of my bag and spritz it on the woman. We both get lost in the scent.

Scents are like guides to connections, facilitating deeper emotions and connections to other levels. They turn strangers into allies. Allies who simply love fragrances and are not afraid to ask about them. It's like in America, where their natural curiosity and willingness to ask questions about any topic is what I love about them so much. It's something that's not common in the Czech Republic, and it usually annoys people. When we fly to Prague, we often ask people how they are doing, for example at the post office or in the supermarket. We always encounter negativity and sour expressions. This is one of the reasons why I feel so good here. I am perceived, seen, listened to, and feel exceptional. Americans call it "Small talk". It doesn't add to the importance, but rather to their sociability. But back to fragrances.

I used to not notice fragrances. Choosing and buying a fragrance was always a memory of a specific place, country, or experience. It was a certain prestige according to the brand I bought and how much it cost. And now, for me, it's proof that society needs emotions. It's about stimulating those little olfactory cells and experiencing the feeling of something unknown. Becoming those curious children who want to be part of the olfactory game in that interest circle, even if just for a little while.

Let's not be afraid to ask questions when something interests us. Let's not be afraid to cross that distance between us and others, and let's not be afraid to exchange an old scent for a new one. Let's talk. Let's connect. We'll be pleasantly surprised at the people we attract and maybe learn something new from ourselves.

What's your favorite scent and what does it evoke in you when you wear it?

And for those curious, the perfume is called Valentino Voce Viva, and my favorite Lady Gaga is the face of it.

Yours truly, Sweetest Dot.
